We had a very good meeting with the regional committee regarding the churches in the communities around Pearl Lagoon.
After a lengthy discussion about the needs, we determined to focus our attention on Haulover, and establish a strong central work there that can serve as a launching point for reaching the other areas.
There are several reasons for this:
There is an existing group of believers there that has been meeting for years.
There is a small church building there and a small mission house to lodge our workers.
Haulover is only an hour’s boat ride from Bluefields and is fairly central to the rest of the region.
There is plenty of property to expand the work.
We discussed several key objectives:
Build up the existing community of believers. We will do this by taking groups of ministry students there on a weekly basis and letting them learn and minister with us.
Develop key outreach ministries directed to the young people of the community.
Design and build a new facility, capable of handling significant growth.
Develop the facility as a pastoral training and resource center with computer lab, internet access and training rooms
This will require significant outside support:
We need to fit one or two flat bottom skiffs to allow us to travel to these churches on a weekly basis. We have skiffs, but need motors (cost: about $7000)
As the Lord blesses the work, we anticipate the need to design and build an expanded facility. Already the church building is too small.
We need to raise monthly support for our ministry students to cover their living and ministry expenses.
