FEBRUARY 5, 2008 - After a disappointing day Monday, the construction on the house moved forward nicely on Tuesday.
Monday was one of those days when it seemed like we got nothing done except dig a bunch of holes. The foreman had to spend time shopping for wood and other stuff.
On Tuesday, however, things really started to move ahead. They poured footers for the walls and for the columns.
We knew that the house had not been constructed strongly enough for a two story house, but did not realize that the footings under the walls were so shallow.
The guys are installing columns every six feet in the walls and are putting huge piers (36 by 36 by 36 reinforced steel) under the wall at each column. That should make it very strong.
