It appears the transportation strike has ended. The strike ended on Friday, then word on the street was that they were going back on strike Saturday because they were not happy with the the deal.
Evidently another deal was negotiated which will drop the price of fuel by about a dollar per gallon and the strike is off again.
During the strike, the taxi drivers were putting nails all over the street and giving people plenty of flat tires. Even the horse carts were ending up with flat tires!!
We are continuing to have good news from our discipleship groups. We have another group that will begin using the studies in Acts that Tim has written.
While we started this with the young people, we now have two adult groups doing the discipleship materials.
It will be nice when we are finished with the building and can focus entirely on discipleship and leadership training.
Speaking of the building, we tore off the porch and the north wall on the second floor. The porch was very poorly constructed (only had about three inches of concrete) and we wanted to push the wall out to make a bigger classroom on the second floor. This will give us two 20' by 30' classrooms upstairs that we can use for teaching, music practice, or group meetings.
The guys tore down the porch and poured new footings and put up the rebar for the new columns. We will have a porch on first floor, but the second floor will extend above the porch to give us more room in our ministry areas.
Check out our photo gallery for more pics
Today, the guys are picking up another 1100 square feet of wood so we can form up the rest of the second floor. The plan is to have the second floor forms in place by the end of the week so that we can pour the following week before we return to the US June 1st.
This is going to be a very tough schedule to meet, but if we do not make it, then the concrete pour will have to wait until we return and then we will be in the middle of rainy season.
We are also working on a large garden in the back. This picture just shows a litle bit of the garden area.
The dirt is very rich and fruits and vegetables grow very well here and we intend to take full advantage of it
Thank you again for your prayers and your support. We don't say it enough, but we certainly appreciate it. |
