Update - Informal Ministry - 07.12.08

We have had some nice informal ministry opportunities open to us in the past week. On Saturday, Ralston and I went over to Pete's little corner store to help him replace a few boards. Pete has been plagued with little health issues that make it hard on him.

Well you know how those type of projects go . . . we started taking a few boards off, then a few more, then it became evident that the entire side of the building needed to be replaced. Just about that time, several of my construction workers came by and got involved. They basically volunteered their time and took over the project, which was a relief to me, since it was getting a bit scary at that point.

They took the truck and picked up Pete's new lumber for him and came back and proceeded to rebuild the side of Pete's store. I overheard Pete talking about how "those Christian guys" came over and rebuilt his storefront.

After that was done, we bought the guys lunch and went up to the new house and played dominoes for a couple of hours. Speaking of the house, it is coming along well, albeit slowly. Concrete house construction is very solid, but also very slow going up.

During our break time, the guys asked me to talk to them about Jesus. I have shared some with them before. I told the the story about Peter, when Jesus called him. Peter felt he was too bad to become a Jesus follower and asked Jesus to leave him, but Jesus wanted him and loved him. One of the lessons from this story is that no matter who you are, Jesus wants you. We will have our Gospels of John this week and we will be able to do Bible study during break time.

The container has arrived in El Bluff and we have been given clearance to pick the materials up on Monday. This will really help to move the progress on the house up nicely because we will have all the electrical supplies in hand.

In case you are wondering, the dogs are doing just fine. The new puppy (Mattie) is now house trained so she lets herself out the front door (the screen door pushes open) when she needs to go out. Princess is adjusting nicely to the new baby, although we can tell she is a little jealous.

We are still excited about the theater idea. Clayton has been very busy working on our container with the customs broker this week. Our best chance for getting this done will be after the new mayor takes office in January (elections are in November).

Thank you again for your prayers. God is doing great things and we expect the doors to continue to open.
