Kim and I are both returning to health. She had the dengue fever for about a week and just as she was recovering, I came down with it. This has been a really bad year for dengue here (not that there is ever a good year for it). (written by Tim Mott)
We are definitely looking forward to some respite time in the US to spend with friends and family and eat some familiar food. We are glad to be here in Nicaragua, but right now I would give my eyeteeth for a simple ham sandwich. The only sandwich meat we get here is slimy and the sliced processed cheese is about $6.00 for a pack of 20 slices, so we don't do that much.
Before I got sick, we were able to complete a project with the kids in the neighborhood. This is now kite season, so we designed and built kite reels to hold their string, similar to the ones they use here.
The kids in this picture worked together with us to build these reels. We hope to do more wood projects with them.
They kept some of them and sold some of them to the younger kids in the neighborhood. They sold them for about 75 cents, which is a pittance compared to what it took to make them, but it was not really about the money anyhow. It was good to see how happy the kids were to have these.
The young boy in the center holding the kite reel stayed at our gate most of the day waiting for us to get it done and you can see how happy he is with his new toy.
Hopefully we can work on making other items with the kids as time goes on. Most of them get little or nothing for Christmas and maybe we can come up with some nice projects to let them build. The biggest challenge is finding things they can do. I need to get some small tools they can use.
Kim and I will be arriving in the US on July 22nd. We are going to buy a cheap car that we can use to get around (probably an older Isuzu Rodeo) and we will have it here in the US whenever we come back. We got one for Jason a couple of years ago with 185,000 miles on it and it is still running, so we will try another one.
While we are in the US, we need to empty out our mini-warehouse in Greenville and move it back to our house in Rowlett. I will be working during the day to make some money and nights and weekends we will have time to get together with people. These two months will probably go by very quickly if the past is any indication.
Rainy season is still in full force here in Bluefields, which is why the mosquitoes are so bad this time of year. The health department goes around and fumigates everyone's house and yard. They take these big machines all through your house and fumigate the entire place, then they do the yard. Hopefully, it will wipe out any remnants of mosquitoes.
We look forward to seeing many of you soon.
Thank you as always for your prayers.
God bless you,
Tim and Kim |
