We are working through Zion Baptist Church to help the young adults to develop their ministry and outreach program. They already have a core of committed young adults and have regular ministry events. Our role is to provide the needed support.
Discipleship
Tim is writing a discipleship program for young believers that will help them to understand the basic issues.
- What does it mean to become a Christian?
- So I became a Christian, what just happened?
- If I have a very bad day, can I lose my salvation?
- Is Jesus God, or just another famous religious guy?
- How can I read my Bible without getting confused?
- When I pray, am I really talking to God?
- What is church and why do I really need it?
- What is this Holy Spirit doing inside of me?
- What do I say to people who challenge my faith?
We are currently holding Bible study and prayer times on Wednesday evenings in our home, but as we develop leaders we want to break these into small groups of 6-12 people.
Saturday Night Alive
This is a fun praise and worship and teaching event every Saturday evening for the youth, by the youth.
The youth want to do this as an open air event one Saturday each month, so they can bring in their unchurched friends. The other Saturdays, the event will be held in a church.
Tim provides the teaching or the videos of teaching for the event. Since most of the kids are Creole (English speaking), we are able to use video resources from churches in the US in addition to doing teaching personally.
Youth Camp
The community leaders in Haulover (the Pearl Lagoon area) have offered us land at no charge to build a youth camp. The land is totally undeveloped and is only accessible by the water, but it is ideal for "getting away" for a spiritual retreat.
We are hoping to go up to the area around Feb. 15th to scout out the best area. Once we find the land, we will need to clear it, fence it and start to develop it. We can take up teams of youth from here help with the work.
We will be able to host teams from the US who can help with the construction. We will also be soliciting donations at some point for the materials needed to build this camp.
